Most young males in 1985 watched at least some of MacGyver. The series revolved around Angus MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson), a secret agent who worked as a troubleshooter for the fictional Phoenix Foundation in Los Angeles and an agent for the fictional United States government agency, the Department of External Services (DMX). MacGyver or Mac, as friends called him, prided himself for not carrying a gun, due to a childhood accident which resulted in the death of a friend. Instead, he always has a Swiss Army knife, duct tape and usually matches. He is also aided by the fact he served as a Bomb Team Technician/EOD during the Vietnam War. Though sometimes his methods seem impossible — the movie producers claim “His ingenious solutions to seemingly insurmountable problems may seem like “gee-whiz” science fiction but they are all based on scientific fact.” Anyway, the series is still intriguing and cool, though the surroundings date it a bit. Now those of us who watched the show back in the day, can relive it remastered on Blu Ray. Anderson, 68, also appeared in the Stargate series.
