Subject of Silver Alert found dead near Shannon

Gale Russell Jones

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The subject of a Silver Alert was found dead in Monroe County. Authorities were looking for 69-year-old Gale Russell Jones of Okolona, who was reported missing and injured. He was found dead in his vehicle. Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told WTVA that Jones was discovered along County Line Road between Okolona and Shannon late Monday afternoon. Authorities said it appeared Jones ran off the road. His truck was found on the side of a creek. Family members said Jones suffered from a medical condition that could have impaired his judgment. When Jones went missing, he had a large laceration on his head with nine staples in it, authorities said. Jones was last seen around 6:30 a.m. Sunday on Okolona Road in Monroe County. Authorities say Jones was traveling in a late 1980s two-tone brown, long-wheel base pick-up truck bearing Mississippi antique license plate T19005.
