Milton B. Rogers, 52, of Tupelo sits in a Lee County Jail cell accused of kidnapping and several other minor charges. Rogers was arrested Monday evening after he allegedly kidnapped a woman in Ballard Park earlier in the day, around 5 p.m. According to witnesses, he drove his former white police patrol car east on West Main Street, hitting several vehicles along the way, including causing a multi-vehicle accident. He turned south on South Thomas Street and ended up crashing across the curb and into at least one car in the U.S. Post Office parking lot. The victim, according to Tupelo Deputy Chief Allan Gilbert, was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries and later released. Rogers was apprehended at the scene and booked into jail near 9 p.m. He is charged with kidnapping, a felony, and bond is set at $250,000. Other charges are misdemeanors: Leaving the scene of an accident, unattended ($400 bond), leaving the scene of an accident, attended ($400) and public intoxication ($300). Capt. Charles McDougald, Tupelo Police Department public information officer, said the investigation continues and more details will be released as they become available.
