Guntown man arrested for possession of a firearm by convicted felon

On Oct. 8, 2021 at approximately 3 p.m. Tupelo Police Department K-9 and Street Crimes Unit officers made a traffic stop in the area of West Main and Park Street.

The driver initially refused commands by officers to exit the vehicle but eventually complied and was detained.

Officers recovered a loaded handgun from under where the driver was sitting. The driver, Anthony Dixon, of Guntown, is a convicted felon.

Dixon, 31, was charged with misdemeanor offenses as well as Felony Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.

Dixon was on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) and had a warrant from MDOC as well.

On Oct. 8, 2021 Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen set bond of the Felony Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon charge at $10,000. Holds were also placed on Dixon for MDOC.

He remains in the Lee County Jail awaiting transfer back to MDOC.
