Couple popped for drugs, child endangerment

Jacob and Jeanie James

A Mississippi couple remain behind bars, at the Lee County Jail, after being stopped at a traffic stop and caught with felony amounts of methamphetamine, heroin and ecstasy inside their vehicle. On July 11, about 10 p.m., the Tupelo Police K-9 Unit conducted the stop at Interstate 22 and McCullough Blvd. The driver of the truck was Jacob James, 37, and the passenger, his wife, Jeanie James,37, both of Ripley. A 7-year-old was also in the vehicle. Jacob was confirmed to be the child’s father, and Jeanie his step-mother. So besides being charged with felony possession of meth, heroin and ecstasy, all with intent to distribute — the couple was also charged with felony child endangerment. Both suspects were arraigned Wednesday and brought before Lee County Justice Court Judge Chuck Hopkins. Hopkins set their bonds at $50,000 each.
