Baldwyn man remains in jail for stabbing

BY jim clark publisher A Baldwyn man remains in the Lee County Jail after a stabbing incident which happened near crosstown in Tupelo. On June 18, at about 1:30 p.m., the Tupelo Police Department arrested Nicholas Tyus, 33, who is expected to be charged with aggravated assault. The police responded to a 911 call about noon at the corner of Park Street and Jefferson Street. Police confirmed a man, 61, was wounded and transported to the North Mississippi Medical Center. “When officers arrived, they found a 61-year-old male suffering from multiple stab wounds,” said Tupelo communications director Leesha Faulkner. “He is currently in the trauma center at NMMC.” Tyus was arrested at the scene without incident. The police were not aware of the motive. Tyrus had been under the care of the Mississippi Department of Corrections in the past for felony fleeing, felony taking of a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm by a felon. As of press time, he had not recieved a new bond or appeared before a Justice Court Judge.
