Pet Sematary is the second adaptation of the 1983 novel, of the same name by Stephen King, following the 1989 adaptation.
Louis Creed (Jason Clarke) is a doctor from Boston, Mass., who moves to the small town of Ludlow, Maine with his wife, Rachel (Amy Seimetz), children Ellie (Jete Laurence), Gage (Hugo and Lucas Lavoie) and Ellie’s cat, Church.
Ellie goes out exploring the woods behind their house and discovers a funeral procession of children in odd costumes, taking a dead dog to a cemetery, known as Pet Sematary. She gets stung and Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), their neighbor comes to her rescue. Jud tells Ellie the woods are dangerous and encourages her to stay away.
Dr. Creed is shaken after not being able to save Victor Pascow, a student who was fatally injured after being hit by a vehicle. That night, the doctor has a vivid dream with Victor guiding him to the Pet Sematary. He wakes up in a sweat with mud on his feet, as if he’d sleepwalked.
On Halloween, Church is struck and killed by a trunk. Louis and Jud carry Church to a special part of the cemetery and later Church returns alive but very different.
