If you tell everyone you love the blues and aren’t listening to Sass Jordan, you’re lying to your friends .... lying to yourself.
This Canadian Idol judge can growl with the best of them. In fact, Sass starred in the off-Broadway Janis Joplin show, Love Janis. Nuff said.
She’s just released Rebel Moon Blues, a monster of an album, largely covers of some of the best blues songs ever recorded.
“The Blues has been there through my entire career. People have always said, ‘You’re so bluesy.’ And it’s true. My singing is blues-inflected. My songs use blues-type licks. I didn’t do any of that on purpose. It isn’t contrived. It’s just me,” Sass said.
Tracks included are J. Estes’ “Leaving Trunk,” Willie Dixon’s “My Babe,” Kevin Moore’s “Am I Wrong,” Hutto’s “Too Much Alcohol,” Gary Moore’s “Still Got the Blues,” and more.
Her 1988 debut “Tell Somebody” launched her career garnering her a JUNO award for Most Promising Female Vocalist. Another great moment for Sass was when she recorded “Trust in Me,” a duet with Joe Cocker from the record -selling Bodyguard soundtrack.
She’s worked along side the greatest rockers in the world including Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Van Halen.
She tours and records with Jordan and the Champagne Hookers — her touring band of guitarists Chris Caddell and Jimmy Reid, bassist Derrick Brady and drummer Cassius Pereira, augmented by blues harp master Steve Marriner and keyboardist Jesse O’Brien.
“The energy is so different when you’re playing it live,” Jordan says. “It’s a different frequency, a different vibe. It’s very joyous. You can hear a lot of us laughing on there. I love that kind of thing,” Sass said. “It’s like you’re right there with us. We’re there, we’re live, and we’re having a blast, baby!”
She’s sold over a million records worldwide and is currently touring across the United States and around the world. This is one act you don’t want to miss. Also on Rebel Moon Blues is a knockout Sass original, “The Key.”
“I’m not reinventing the wheel. Never have, never will… But this opens up a whole new world for me, and it’s one that I belong in and feel at home in already!,” Sass said.
