The Donna Reed Show originally aired from 1958 to 1966 on ABC-TV. Many will remember Donna from the feature films From Here to Eternity or It’s a Wonderful Life.
She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Eternity.
She also won a Golden Globe as Best TV Star - Female for The Donna Reed Show in 1963. The American sitcom starred Donna as the middle-class housewife Donna Stone. Carl Betz co-starred as her pediatrician husband Dr. Alex Stone, and Shelley Fabares and Paul Petersen as their teenage children, Mary and Jeff.
Episodes revolved around typical family problems of the period such as firing a clumsy housekeeper, throwing a retirement bash for a colleague, and finding quality time away from the children. Then-daring themes such as women's rights and freedom of the press were occasionally explored.
The black and white series still hits the nail on the head, when delving into the differences between male and female.
There are also lots of guest stars you’ll recognize — Don Drysdale, Willie Mays, Lesley Gore, Harry James, Buster Keaton, Harvey Korman, Cloris Leachman, Bob Crane, Ted Knight and many more.
