There are so many theorys of how the earth will come to an end. These are some ways scientists suggest — Earth's molten core might cool, the Sun could start to die and expand, Earth could get shoved into a deadly orbit or a rogue planet could hit Earth.
Some actually believe we’ll meet our fate via zombies.
The storyline from Love and Monsters suggests a Monsterpocalypse. After the destruction of an asteroid headed for Earth, the chemical fallout causes all cold-blooded animals to mutate into large monsters.
So if you’re looking for a scientific film, you may want to pass but if you’re looking for some fun escapism — this one is for you.
After all, the film was certified fresh with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Our hero is Joel Dawson (Dylan O'Brien) who becomes separated from his parents and his girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick) during the event.
The story begins seven years after the event and we find Joel is in one of many underground bunkers called “colonies,” where other survivors, except for him, have romantically paired up with each other while fighting monsters and scavenging for supplies.
Joel knows the colony only appreciate two of his attributes, he can cook and he got their only radio up and running, sometimes.
The rest of them, even the women, fight the monsters but when Joel sees one he freezes.
Joel reaches out via radio to his Aimee, who is 80 miles away in another colony. She seems to be doing OK, but Joel senses something is wrong.
He’s had enough. He’s tired of being scared and alone. He bids his colony goodbye saying he’s going to make the 80 mile journey over the monster-infected terrain to locate his true love.
On the first leg of the journey he is attacked by a giant toad-monster but is saved by a stray dog named “Boy,” who follows Joel on his walk.
Later he meets two other survivors, Clyde Dutton and Minnow (a little girl). They teach Joel some basic survival skills.
Eventually they separate so Joel can track down his precious Aimee. Of course, years have passed so Joel finds Aimee has changed - and then recognizes he has too. There is still a spark there, but after a romantic kiss he heads back to his colony.
This leaves the door open for Love and Monsters 2.
By the way, this is what I believe — “The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare” (2 Peter 3:10).
